Online Tools for Accounting and Bookkeeping

Jun 28, 2010

Managing your own personal finances can be confusing enough, but as artists we often wear multiple financial hats.  One of those hats is small business entrepreneur and involves additional duties dealing with taxes, tracking income and expenses, and invoicing collaborators/vendors.

Even if you're not making huge sums of money with your art, getting financially organized is a great idea.  Taking some action now will make tax time next year easier too. Fortunately there are a lot of great online tools that are popping up, many of which are free:

FreshBooks -
fast and simple invoicing and time tracking site ($ monthly fee)

Outright - free online bookkeeping tools with tax prep features ($ free)

Quickbooks - online bookeeping and expense tracking ($ monthly fee)

Here's a helpful case study on FreshBook's blog about how their service can be combined with other online financial management tools to take care of most bookkeeping needs.
