Shining Her Light... Rocking the House

Jun 11, 2010

Cincinnati Opera commissioned soprano Adrienne Danrich to write a tribute to Marian Anderson and Leontyne Price. The result was This Little Light of Mine: The Stories of Marian Anderson and Leontyne Price, which has been described as a "live documentary." The musical features narration, audio and video performances of these two divas, and Danrich sings various songs and arias that bring to life the music that Anderson and Price sang throughout their careers.

“This show is not just about being African American,” says Danrich. “It is about being American. I just went to Africa for the first time last year. I’m an American first and foremost, and when I sing, I want to touch all races.”

"Shining Her Light... Rocking the House," highlights information about Danrich, This Little Light of Mine, and her plans to write a second piece celebrating Langston Hughes, American poet, novelist, and playwright.
