What is the NPAC?
NPAC, The National Performing Arts Convention, is an interdisciplinary gathering of performing arts professionals, volunteers, audiences, and supporters of all kinds. The first fully-integrated gathering of its kind, NPAC will take place in Denver, CO, from June 10-15. NPAC aims to lay the foundation for future cross-disciplinary collaborations, cooperative programs, and effective advocacy, and will demonstrate new potency as a united sector dedicated to bringing the value of arts to more people more effectively and strengthening communities across the country.
Will the 2008 National Performing Arts Convention be different from the 2004 Convention in Pittsburgh?
Yes. The 2004 National Performing Arts Convention was a pilot project, which brought together the conferences of many performing arts service organizations. The 2008 Convention will be a single interdisciplinary gathering, with programming designed to address the burning issues of all performing arts disciplines.
Will the national service organization for my performing arts discipline still hold its own annual conference?
The 2008 National Performing Arts Convention will be the annual meeting for many of the performing arts disciplines that regularly meet in June. Chorus America, the Composers' Consortium, Dance/USA, Early Music America, League of American Orchestras, OPERA America, and Theatre Communications Group will all make the National Performing Arts Convention their annual gathering in 2008.
Will my performing arts discipline meet on its own, or will all of the programming be interdisciplinary?
While the 2008 National Performing Arts Convention is programmed to be vital and valuable for all of the performing arts, there is also time set aside in the schedule for discipline-specific meetings, which national service organizations are free to program as best serves their fields. There is a separate registration step and fee for anyone wishing to add on programming for a particular discipline.
